Press-Release-Blurb-Longreach-Cemetery

In 2016 History Tours Australia Pty Ltd has began a project working with Longreach local Kaye Kuhn to create and conduct guided Longreach Cemetery tours with history, crime and mystery themes.

Managing Director of HTA Pty Ltd Jack Sim has been running history, cemetery, crime and ghost tours in Brisbane for over 17 years – including historic sites such as Toowong and South Brisbane Cemetery, as well as managing the Historic Boggo Road Gaol since 2012.

In 2015 the company expanded to Charters Towers and Ravenswood, offering an interesting twist on history and storytelling with successful historic ghost tours.

Jack, who has worked in and visited Longreach many times, is well aware of the charms and attraction of the town. “One of the most fascinating places is the cemetery. It is full of amazing stories and people – good, bad and in-between – that have had far reaching influence around Australia, and the world. Visitors to Longreach appreciate history and heritage and they love to hear stories from local people. We are excited to be working with Kaye.”

These stories are also a long time passion for local Kaye Kuhn – who is looking forward to sharing the history of Longreach with locals and visitors alike. Her enthusiasm, research and genealogy work really adds an extra dimension to the tours.

The 75 minute historical tour runs weekly and tells the story of outback Queensland and Longreach through its former residents; but also share with visitors some of the mysteries and marvels of Longreach – including the Longreach Cinderella, Old Towner, a cemetery outcast and an aboriginal tracker who tracked down the last bushranger in Queensland. The tours are suitable for all ages; groups are limited in size to keep the tours friendly and safe.

Starting as part of the National Trust Heritage Festival in April 2016; A portion of every ticket will be donated to the Longreach Archival and Historical Research Group Inc to go toward cemetery restoration. Jack and Kay hope to compliment the tourism attractions around Longreach and work with the Council and locals to attract more visitors to the town. Evening tours will be run during cooler months.
